New Year, New Season, New Patterns!

Look forward to the New Year and revamp your wardrobe with the bright contemporary prints in our Early Spring 2020 collection!

Patterns have been a staple part of fashion history, in East Asia the earliest surviving example of Woodblock printing dates back to 220AD. Then in 1860 William Jennings Demorest and Ellen Louise Demorest revolutionised the industry by introducing sewing patterns. Over the years there have been many revivals of the ‘classic’ prints and they have certainly sustained their popularity throughout each decade.

This year is no exception to the trend, and we’re looking forward to bringing you key pieces, thoughtfully created by our designers in the heart of the Cotswold’s and styled to suit you…

Showcasing a fabulously modern geometric floral print, these gorgeous jersey separates look beautiful paired together and can be effortlessly coordinated with pieces from your existing wardrobe.

The classic polka dot motif has been refashioned on this intriguing French soft blouse, perfect for all occasion wear as well as a layering piece over a t-shirt. It also looks stunning with the complementing silk and cotton scarf, printed for us in England.

Florals are always wonderfully feminine, and we have a lovely selection in our latest collection. For a lighter piece to wear throughout the season into summer and beyond, take a look at our soft, warm blouse featuring a charming French botanical print. Add a stylish layer to your ensembles with our luxuriously warm jacquard cardigan which showcases an eye-catching floral design in a bright spring hue.

Chic and luxurious, our fully fashioned mélange jumper has a feature front panel of jacquard knit in three lovely colours creating a wonderful stripe effect pattern.

Dress for your shape: Christmas Edition

Each of us are beautifully unique, in looks, personality and shape. Because of this, we exclusively create pieces with our customer at the forefront of the design, developing garments that offer a comfortable fit as well as timeless style in premium quality fabrics that will truly last for years to come.  All our collections incorporate a range of styles, colours and fits to suit all tastes, preferences and shapes. But to help you choose the perfect pieces for you, we’ve put together this handy style guide.

The overarching rule for boosting confidence and flattering your figure, according to stylists is to achieve visual balance with your look. Depending on your body shape, this can be achieved by opting for slightly different tailoring, adding accessories or by wearing a piece that showcases features that attract the eye. There are five main categories to the ‘body shape’ guide, each have their own specific characteristics and you have probably come across them before: Apple, Pear, Column, Inverted triangle and Hourglass.

Simply dress these ensembles up for an occasion, or pair down for a considered casual look:

"Apple" shapes are usually defined by a rounded shoulder line, fullness around the tummy and shapely legs.
The pretty flared hem and cowlneck of this lightweight and comfortable jersey dress will distract the eye away from the mid-section of your body with ease. Plus, it’s a wonderful wardrobe addition that’s brilliant for everyday wear, while also being smart enough to dress up with a few accessories like our Owen Barry clutch bag for an event.

Discover more about Owen Barry here >>

The "Column" figure is characterised by the top and bottom halves of the body being the same measurements with little waist definition.
Accentuate your physique in the gorgeous combination of our Italian cable knit rollneck and beautiful Italian check weave skirt. The attractive cable and rib front panel of the rollneck also subtly helps create the illusion of a waist.

"Pear" shapes tend to have a small upper half, with a defined waist but carry weight on the hips and thighs.
The beautiful sparkle and floral design of the gorgeous merino wool and lurex cardigan is perfect for drawing the eye upwards, while the comfortable classic trousers will elegantly showcase your petite waist. Dress down the ensemble with a plain white top underneath, or for a special occasion pair the outfit with the chic, shimmering Lurex-blend crewneck also made in a soft merino wool blend.

"Hourglass" statures are similar to Pear Shape but with a fuller bust.
Opt for detailing that showcases your petite waist, such as a tie or belt around a dress, skirt or trousers. Alternatively, choose a garment that’s tailored to cinch in the waist, like our gorgeous devoré dress which is styled with lavish pleating in the front panel and has a modesty neckpiece to ensure an elegant and glamourous look.

An "Inverted Triangle" body shape is identified by having a smaller bottom half than your top.
Create the illusion of fuller hips and thighs in our stunning checked pleated skirt, woven in a British heritage mill. The attractive tone reflects fireside colours of falling embers evoking feelings of warmth while the volume of the pleats will flatter your lower half and attract the eye downwards. Pair with a plain knitted warm top for an easy outfit perfect for both casual and occasion wear.

Dress for your shape with confidence, knowing that all of our clothes are expertly designed with you in mind. Made using natural fibres which hold their shape well and are more forgiving than their synthetic counterparts and in premium quality fabrics, our garments are guaranteed to give you a confidence boost for months ahead.

We advise purchasing a coat in your normal size as our team design each piece to accommodate garments (and layers) underneath! Take a look at our quilted coat, faux fur collar coat and double-breasted coat to protect you against the elements.

Finally complete your look with our stunning accessories that add lovely detail and extra warmth to your ensembles. Our new Alpaca knit scarf, gloves and hat are indulgently soft and warm in a beautiful blue hue. Alternatively, for a sophisticated classic, our leather gloves have a lovely warm knitted lining. If you prefer something lighter, but to keep your neck warm, take a look at our stylish silk square that features a striking check design.

Each of these garments can then be paired with dresses, skirts or trousers, depending on your preference, to form considered, comfortable and flatteringly warm outfits.

Style guide: 5 ways to wear your scarf

Is there a better accessory for the cooler seasons than a scarf? Make the most of your go-to finishing touch with this handy style guide covering a few different simple and effortless looks that can be achieved from tying your scarf in different ways!

    Knotted necklace:
A gorgeous statement, this style can be achieved either by double knotting your scarf, or by tying it in the way you would a men’s tie. The simplicity of this look can be individualised by the position of the middle knot too.

    Double accessory:
Whether you’re adding a pop of colour to a handbag, or being prepared for a weather change during the day, simply tie your scarf around the handle of your handbag. Depending on the size and length, you may want to roll it a little thinner or fold it into a square shape to achieve the optimum look.

    Wrapped up:
A slightly larger scarf can double as a lightweight and versatile layer. Tuck one edge under your arm, wrap it around yourself and place the other edge over your opposite shoulder. For an extra special touch, you can hold the scarf in place with an eye-catching broach.

    Bow tie:
Best achieved with a silk scarf folded lengthways in three, then position around your neck with one side longer than the other and tie a bow. Shift the bow to one side for a warm and simple yet elegant alternative to the standard neckerchief.

    Scarf ring:
Perfect for lightweight and silk scarves, the scarf ring adds both an element of luxury and a convenient weight to hold your scarf in place.

Style guide: Three Easy Colour Combinations

Sometimes adding new colours to your wardrobe can be a little daunting, as can stepping outside of your own colour combination comfort zone. But with each season comes new trends, new tones and new pairings to try. With this in mind, we’ve chosen our three favourite combinations from our Autumn season to suit all tastes and styles…

Refashioning the classic tones of navy and camel; these pieces can be easily accessorised for an occasion or paired down for simple but elegant relaxed dressing. The knitted blazer is a wonderful lightweight cover-up for the season, made in a soft blend of cotton and wool, with elastane to maintain its shape and the matching navy classic trousers are a versatile year-round essential. Each piece looks especially gorgeous when matched with the wardrobe staple, easy-care camel turtleneck made in best quality Italian-spun merino wool.

Create an effortless, chic outfit by combining this season’s on trend colour with the ultimate colour pairing go-to. Opt to make a statement in the gorgeous quilted coat, classic grey trousers and grey turtleneck. Or pair subtle details like our unusual chain necklace and beautiful leather handbag with our fully-fashioned dress, knitted with luxurious mélange yarn in Portugal.

This outfit truly emanates the warm hues of Autumn. The fully lined pull-on skirt features a traditional paisley design in soft, warm touch fabric and creates a lovely, feminine silhouette with its six-panels that flare into a graceful sweep at the hemline. The slight rowanberry tones in the design of the skirt are accentuated by the simple and charming cotton v-neck top, knitted with yarn spun in the UK and finished with pretty pointelle shell edging on the neckline.

Guest blog - Lady of the Manor

This week, we are delighted to have teamed up with Instagram style blogger Lady of the Manor, Hayley Karseras for this journal piece. The savvy social media icon is a lifestyle consultant and style blogger who loves gardening and lives in a gorgeous country manor house in Buckinghamshire with her husband and two children.

Read on to discover her take on some pieces from our latest Summer collection…

    *

Hello Cotswold Collection ladies! It’s so great to be here as a guest blogger.

When I was asked to choose some pieces from Cotswold Collections summer range, I was so excited! Being a country girl who is most happy in my garden I wanted pieces that were classic, comfortable and stylish.  I didn’t let trends sway me but kept to my wardrobe mantra of ‘keep it simple’ and I chose key pieces to build an easy capsule wardrobe that can be styled different ways, season to season, year on year.

I was spoilt for choice with the summer range but I’ve pulled together a few of my favourites to share with you as well as show you how I would style them here at home.

I believe clothes have to work for you; they should fit with your lifestyle while feeling effortless and comfortable. If you wear something new and it doesn’t feel right, it probably isn’t for you. However, the pieces from Cotswold Collections felt like I’d already had them in my wardrobe for years as they’re so beautifully made, comfortable and stylish.

My first choice had to be these gorgeous navy trousers. I have styled them here with a blazer and simple heels. They are so versatile; I would be as happy in a pair of heels and a silk camisole with them for an evening out, as I would be wearing them with some flat shoes and a navy polo-neck top in the garden. The high waist makes me feel held in but with a lovely loose, long leg. They are definitely a wardrobe staple for me!

I was given this young rose bush for my birthday last year and my lovely mother (who lives next door) has been teaching me how to prune it back. There couldn’t be a more perfect outfit for the task than this stunning palm print belted dress! It’s smart and sophisticated while not being too dressy or fussy. I love its khaki green print and it’s a lovely nod to the timeless safari style we see every year on the fashion pages. It would look as stunning paired with a blazer for a formal occasion too.

I love this fun and chic summery maxi skirt. It’s effortless... Unlike the yew hedge in my garden! I have teamed it with a simple white t-shirt for a casual, but finished look on warmer days. I think it would be equally as beautiful if paired with a pink knitted cardigan on cooler evenings. This piece makes me think of holidays and would be the perfect piece to take away with you.

This stunning pink and blue print dress is made of the softest jersey fabric and is certainly another wardrobe staple for me. It’s an easy styling solution that is simple, but also wonderfully classy and sophisticated with minimal effort. The classic cut could easily be styled with a big hat and some heels for a summer wedding or dress it down with a pair of loafers and a cardigan for a family BBQ.

Pearls, prosecco... and THE most fabulous blue skirt! Who could ask for more? I have to confess; this piece is one of my absolute favourites and I could have chosen a variety of outfit combinations. The length and waistline are tailored beautifully. I’ve paired it here with a classic white shirt, pearl accessories and a fabulous Italian woven tote.

I hope these ensembles provide a little inspiration to you on how you can pair these gorgeous pieces, or perhaps others from Cotswold Collections over the summer months! I wish you all a Happy Summer and I hope you enjoy wearing these stunning garments as much as I do!

Dress for your shape this summer

With fashion trends always changing it can sometimes be tricky to know how to style them to our wonderfully unique shapes. To aid this troublesome process we have compiled a basic guideline of do’s and don’ts, as well as example outfits for each shape to ensure you can shop in confidence this summer and choose pieces that will accentuate your beautiful figure!

We have provided brief descriptions of each shape, but if you are unsure which category you’re best fitted to, then you can measure (in inches) your bust, waist and hips to find out!

An Inverted Triangle body shape is identified by having a smaller bottom half than your top.

✔ Keep your top half clean and uncluttered by keeping patterns and details to your bottom half. Straight clothing will be a natural extension of your body line and adding a belt will create the illusion of a waist.

Baggy or loose garments will hide your silhouette, so select pieces that are well cut to flatter your figure. Bardot and similar necklines will draw attention to your upper half, so it’s best to opt for more subtle cuts that will create more visual balance.

Our new-style, easy pull-on maxi skirt features a vibrant floral print and its long length will emphasise your natural body line. The matching top complements the skirt brilliantly, without drawing attention away from the skirts design.

Pear shapes tend to have a small upper half, with a defined waist but carry weight on the hips and thighs.

✔ Opt for fitted styles that accentuate your waist and try to balance your top half with your curves by layering, wearing patterns or adding chunky accessories. This will create visual interest and draw the eye upwards.

✘ Narrow tapered trousers will draw the eye downwards as will detailed and patterned skirts. Try to keep attention on the top half of your body to create visual balance.

Beautifully cut, our gorgeous printed sateen jacket will draw the eye upwards, especially if paired with the lovely Italian bead necklace. For an extra accentuation of a small pear waist, try tucking the pima scoop-neck top into the trousers!

Hourglass statures are similar to Pear Shape but with a fuller bust.

If you’re an hourglass shape, you benefit from fewer styling rules due to your natural visual balance. Although, clothing that brings attention to your shoulder, neckline and waist will accentuate your curves.

If you can, steer clear of styles, shapes or tailoring such as straight lines and boxy jackets that create volume as these will hide your lovely figure.

The soft tropical print shirt dress will suit an hourglass silhouette as the wonderfully lightweight fabric will drape over your curves while the optional belt will emphasise the waist. Pair with our delightful Italian straw hat for an effortless summer look.

Column figure is characterised by the top and bottom halves of the body being the same measurements with little waist definition.

✔ Use layering and high waists to shorten your upper half and highlight your hips and bottom with pockets or details. Pieces that have shape to them, like a knotted waist or feminine tailoring will create the illusion of curves!

Dropped waistlines, square necklines and bulky, heavy fabrics may be too boxy for your svelte figure so choose light pieces that you can layer to add shape as well as style!

It’s hard to layer in the summer as the weather is so warm; ease this by adding a light scarf around your shoulders for an elegant accessory and to create curves. The pockets on the cropped trousers will also draw the eye to your hips.

Apple shapes are usually defined by a rounded shoulder line, fullness around the tummy and shapely legs.

✔ Keep the clothing line straight to slightly fitted, but fabric soft so you avoid unnecessary bulk around the bosom, waist and tummy. Wearing details above the bust line and below the hips will also draw attention to these areas.

Try to avoid wearing belts, sleeves that finish next to the bust or any detail in your mid-drift as these will draw the eye to these areas effecting the desired visual balance.

Our stunning contemporary patterned paisley print dress is perfect for this shape as is offers gentle shaping that will effortlessly skim over the tummy. For extra style and warmth, try wrapping the ultra-soft Italian woven wrap around the outfit!
