Walk up to Arthur's Seat and take in the spectacular vista of Edinburgh and the Firth of Forth. On the way down stop off at The Sheep's Heid for some refreshments in front of a roaring log fire.

If you don't feel up to hiking but still want to take in the majestic cityscape Edinburgh has to offer then visit Calton Hill. Filled with neo-classical monuments and stunning views, all easily accessible and within the city centre.

Finally, take a ten-minute bus ride outside Edinburgh to Leith and visit the Royal Yacht Britannia, the Queen's marine residence for over 40 years, which is permanently moored in the harbour.

  1. Your feature on Edinburgh, where I live, is most attractive, but I should point out that you cannot - yet, if ever - take a ten minute tram ride from Edinburgh to Leith! That might have been the original plan, but the tram line, as completed, runs only from the city centre (York Place) to the airport, west of Edinburgh.

    1. Hi Sheila, thank you for kindly pointing this out. We misread the travel information and having double-checked realise it is a bus, not a tram. Such a shame the tram doesn't go to Leith!
